10 Greatest Hard Rock Songs Of 2020

7. Dance of the Clairvoyants - Pearl Jam

It's pretty easy to put Pearl Jam's sound into a neat box. If you throw together any type of classic rock lick from the '70s and combine it with the yarliest vocalist that you can find, you pretty much have already written half of PJ's catalog from their glory years. While there's nothing wrong with having a set formula to how you write, Dance of the Clairvoyants shows them trying on new genres and making it look good.

Compared to the more '70s pastiches you got from Lightning Bolt from 2013, Clairvoyants shows the band going for more of a Talking Heads vibe, as Eddie Vedder rides the beat with a skiddish delivery. Though most fans of something like Alive or Jeremy may be disappointed by this kind of switchup, it makes for one of the most atmospheric tracks that these guys have ever made, almost like you're hearing it being played from the skies.

As opposed to the other massive guitar solos you would find on other Pearl Jam songs, the bass is what carries this tune, slowly working its way around the melody to keep you on your toes while you listen. Even though plenty of grunge rockers of the '90s have started to fade away, Dance of the Clairvoyants is the sound of settling into your new sound with ease.
