10 Greatest Hard Rock Songs Of 2020
4. Model Village - IDLES
The last few years have been an amazing journey for IDLES. Starting off as just your average hardcore act, their embrace of art rock tendencies and pertinent lyrical themes turned them into one of the most abrasive acts to come out of Britain. Even though people have had their gripes with their latest album Ultra Mono, Model Village still brings the pain just as much as they did in their prime.
Though you could easily just throw this on as a solid piece of hardcore, Joe Talbot goes the extra mile in setting the scene of a village that doesn't have the friendliest of clientele. No, this is the type of village of some of the more deplorable parts of society, be it racism, fascism, or the kind of toxic masculinity that is getting all but insufferable as of late.
That's before you even get to the music video, which looks like a children's cartoon that was thought up by David Lynch. While these people might not have a prayer of redeeming themselves in this village, Talbot knows that it's about growing away from those stereotypes and becoming a better person as a result. For as much as this band might like to shout at you, you can at least take comfort in knowing that their heart is in the right place.
