10 Greatest Love Songs In Rock Music History

8. Everlong - Foo Fighters

When the Foo Fighters were just starting out, Dave Grohl never considered himself to be one of the great songwriters of his generation. If you were to listen back to that debut record, Grohl has said that most of the songs don't mean anything and he was more or less just playing with words and sorting out the meaning of them later down the line. With success comes heartache though, and Grohl was in the throes of divorce during the Colour and the Shape.

Despite some of the angrier tracks on the record like Monkey Wrench, Everlong is one of the most genuine songs that Grohl would ever write, yearning for just one more second to spend with his wife before she leaves forever. Just by using the little connection of singing along with him, Grohl makes that sing along feel like the most important thing in the world.

Considering the man's relationship with music, there's nothing shallow about a line like "if everything could ever feel this real forever." Here's a man standing in front of a woman and asking her to just hold on that one second longer so that he can just feel a little bit more bliss before she goes away. Nothing in the world is able to last forever, but when you hear a song like this, the feeling never leaves your body.
