10 Greatest Love Songs In Rock Music History

5. One - U2

As rock has grown up over the years, love songs can come in all shapes and sizes. Though there's the cutesy stuff that you expect out of pop rock, that puppy love is going to wear out its welcome after a little while. Things can get complicated as life goes on, and U2 showed us how love can go on that journey with us in One.

From the first few bars of the song though, you would have thought that this is the opposite of a love song, with Bono talking about being left on his own after pushing away one of the most important people in his life. The one in the title doesn't refer to him being alone though. As the song goes on, you can feel Bono get more and more choked up as he talks about the importance of his connection with this person and how they can still manage to go on in this one life that they share together.

In his words, love is a temple, and it means something much more than a feeling that can be over in an instant. It means looking at your partner as less like an object of affection and more like a comrade in arms who can help face the world alongside you. There might be some hippy mindset behind the ideas of "sisters and brothers," but all it comes down to is finding salvation in love and helping it guide you through the rest of your life.
