10 Greatest Rock And Roll Collab Songs

1. Bring The Noise - Anthrax and Public Enemy

For the longest time, there was a clear dividing line between people who liked rock and people who liked hip hop. Long before the Limp Bizkits of the world made their millions off of nu metal, hearing these two styles come together felt like it would be destined to fail. Even though Aerosmith and Run-DMC kicked everything off with the rap version of Walk This Way, it didn't really blow up until Anthrax teamed up with Public Enemy.

Going back to Anthrax's inception, Scott Ian was never a snob about music, listening to hip hop for almost as long as he was listening to rock music. During the sessions for the album Persistence of Time, Scott had an idea to make their own arrangement of the song Bring the Noise, running through a test of it with Charlie Benante's massive drum sound. Replacing the horn sample with Scott's guitar feedback, everything fell into place once they got ahold of Chuck D and Flava Flav to add their vocals on top of it.

While Chuck had admitted that he thought this was going to be a joke at first, hearing the crunch of metal with the ferocious delivery of his vocals made too much sense once they actually got down to recording the song. They believed in the power of this collab too, combining it with a joint tour where Public Enemy and Anthrax would co headline, with each show ending with them coming together to play this song. Rap rock may have been around for a little while at that point, but every fan who saw those shows walked out of there wanting to form their own nu metal band.
