10 Greatest Rock Music Frontmen Of The 60s

2. Mick Jagger

Mick Jagger is 78 years old and still performing at an incredibly high level, and that’s down to the sheer graft he put in as a younger man. From the Rolling Stones’ inception at the start of the ‘60s to their assumption of the mantle of world’s biggest band at the end, Jagger honed his act and craft with shrewd intelligence to cement himself as an all time great frontman.

If that sounds a little clinical, then the music tells a more enjoyable tale. Few bands have ever had as good a decade as the Stones’ ‘60s, with Jagger evolving from boyish R&B fan sneering through covers and early originals to the man behind “Gimme Shelter” and “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”. They got better and better, with Jagger (alongside Keith Richards) becoming one of the greatest songwriters Britain has ever produced.

Perhaps no rockstar has ever looked so at home on stage as Jagger. He prances, preens, and chicken struts, making members of the most enormous crowds feel as though he’s directing his attention to them alone.

In spite of his monumental success, he can still carry himself like cheeky Mick from Dartford, rather than a multimillionaire rockstar of almost 60 years’ experience. That’s true charisma.
