10 Greatest Rock Music One Hit Wonders

Not every one hit wonder has to be some weird novelty song. A lot of the time, some of the best bands find themselves just reaching into the charts for one great song before dropping off the map entirely. If there was ever a band that was meant to explode off the strength of their singles though, it should have been Fountains of Wayne.

Aside from getting a few mentions in sitcoms like Scrubs though, Stacy's Mom remains the only time that these power pop idols ever troubled the charts. Which is a shame considering that Stacy's Mom is one of the most letter perfect songs of the '00s. Sure, the setup might be a little bit joke-y, but the construction of the track is absolutely phenomenal, with not a single bad line and some of the greatest instrumentation of any of their rock and roll peers.

At a time when most of the rock scene were stripping things back off the strength of acts like the Strokes and The White Stripes, here were guys who were taking pages out of acts like the Cars and coming out with amazing hits of their own. It gets even better when you realize that Stacy's Mom isn't even close to their best song. Stacy's mom did have it going on, but Fountains of Wayne had more charm to spare as well.
