10 Greatest Taylor Hawkins Moments In Foo Fighters Songs
8. Sean - Saint Cecilia EP
What seems to get lost with Taylor Hawkins is his more eclectic taste in music. Though you could tell that rock was his main MO throughout most of his career, he was never a snob in terms of what he liked, willing to jam with everyone from Coheed and Cambria to the guys in Led Zeppelin when he was given the chance. But those still fit in the rock category...and Hawkins still had an inner street punk in every snare hit.
Being one of the few less remembered stop gaps for the Foos, the Saint Cecilia EP doesn't waste a second of time, especially on the song Sean. While the rest of the songs on here are what you expect from the Foos at this stage, this is a straight up punk song that feels like it was recorded live in the studio, with Taylor bashing away behind Dave's manic vocal delivery.
It's also refreshing to see them getting a little bit more aggro this time around, since their last record Sonic Highways was about being much more bombast than anything they had done before. Maybe it was just their feeling at the time, or maybe it was them getting back in touch with Dave's involvement in the DC punk scene. Either way, Taylor was up to the challenge no matter what kind of rock and roll you managed to put in front of him.
