10 Hard Rock Albums That Are Worse Than You Remember
9. The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here - Alice in Chains
After Alice in Chains released Black Gives Way to Blue, it truly felt like the impossible had happened. Though many believed that the original Alice died along with Layne Staley back in the early '00s, the revival of the group with the help of William DuVall proved to have enough staying power to rival them, with amazing tracks like Check My Brain and Last of My Kind. Even though it was a good start, the Devil Put Dinosaurs Here started them getting into bad habits.
Compared to the more straight ahead rock coming from their previous output, this attempt at the sludgier side of metal is a little too dozy to be paid attention to for more than a few minutes. Though Alice were always known for some fairly long songs since the beginning, the drawn-out riffs on every one of these tracks feel more like they're half-baked rather than strong and powerful.
There is a bit of a reason behind the lack of input, with Jerry Cantrell undergoing surgery on his shoulder shortly before going into production for the record. Though there's the makings of a good record in here, the long runtime ends up kneecapping it in the long run. Not bad mind...but Alice can certainly do a lot better than this.
