10 Hard Rock Albums That Divided The Fanbase
8. Sonic Highways - Foo Fighters
The Foo Fighters were in an interesting place during the 2010's. With the music landscape changing beneath their feet, Dave Grohl wanted to shake things up when it came time for the band to make another record. Instead of just going into a studio and hashing it out, the band planned a road trip across America, creating their new songs in some of the most legendary studios in the country.
The concept of this record was amazing from the very start, but fans felt a bit perplexed once they had the album in front of them. Instead of having a more eclectic sound, the music felt like the band playing it too close to the chest. Even with guest features like Ben Gibbard, Zac Brown, and Rick Nielsen, the album was pretty much the same Foo Fighters sound many fans had become used to ever since the 2000's.
That being said, there's nothing wrong with knowing your lane and staying in it. For as many fans that were not onboard, there were many Foo fanatics who saw this as a good way for the band to explore new musical territory. Complete with an accompanying documentary, Sonic Highways has the distinction of being both the most overrated and underrated Foos album to date.
