10 Hard Rock Albums That Were A Nightmare To Make
3. Draw the Line - Aerosmith
Aerosmith had truly conquered the music world by the mid 70's. While initially overcoming Rolling Stones comparisons, the band produced some of the most infectious hard rock ever created on albums like Toys in the Attic and Rocks. Once they finally came up for air though, they found themselves a victim of their own addictions.
Though the band had never been shy about their narcotic habits, things started to hit a wall once they went in to record the album Draw the Line. In an effort to get them away from drugs, the band's manager suggested that they record their next release in the Cenacle, which was a large estate just outside New York. Instead of using the time to dry out, the band ended up getting more strung out that they could have imagined, with Joe Perry not leaving his room for days.
While the performances on the record are still great, you can hear the absolute agony that the band had to go through in order to birth these tunes. Steven Tyler even said that he found it difficult to do something as simple as rhyme scheme to find lyrics for a track. This album gets a lot of deserved praise for its dark tone, but this is where the band truly started their spiral.
