10 Hard Rock Bands That Destroyed Their Own Career

6. KISS

In the grand scheme of rock and roll, it's almost difficult to screw up the winning formula that KISS had in the '70s. Ever since their pathway to success with Alive! sent them into the stratosphere, each of the band's members became breakout stars off the success of albums like Love Gun and Destroyer. The best course of action at that point was to go outside of their comfort zone...even though no one was asking them to.

In the case of KISS, most of the goodwill that they had can't even be traced back to an album in particular. Even though Dynasty is thought of to be the sell out album, everything started to go wrong with the release of I Was Made For Lovin You. While the song itself works just fine as a dance or disco track, the alarm bells start going off when you realize that KISS is probably the worst kind of band to pull something like this off.

Whereas just a few albums before you were cowering underneath the 7 inch boots of Gene Simmons, these shock rockers had just turned into a pop band pretty much overnight. Though there's nothing wrong with mixing it up, the fans weren't having any of it, with most of the hardcore KISS army sent packing. Disco may have its place in music history, but that didn't mean there weren't some casualties along the way.
