10 Hard Rock Bands That Destroyed Their Own Career
4. 30 Seconds to Mars
It's never really that easy to juggle two different occupations in the spotlight. While you may have to make compromises on your own artistic vision from time to time, there's always a part of your artistic self that always feels stifled when you try to do everything at once. Even though guys like Donald Glover may have been able to juggle a music and acting career just fine, the same can't really be said for Jared Leto.
At the start of 30 Seconds to Mars, you could still tell that Leto's heart and soul was firmly in the musical sphere, despite having some great secondary roles in classics like Fight Club and American Psycho. However, as the filming became more lucrative and the accolades started to roll in, the less competent Leto became at writing songs. Though 30 Seconds made it through albums like Kings and Queens and A Beautiful Lie with ease, America showed them throwing all of their goodwill out the window.
Instead of capitalizing on the electronic sounds they had already built off of on their previous effort, their latest is just a bleak cash-grab in an attempt to turn them into the next Imagine Dragons. Look at it this way though. If Leto wants to make music on par with his performance as the Joker in Suicide Squad, at the very least he's consistent.
