10 Hard Rock Bands That Need To Be In The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

6. Pantera

Over the past few years, the Rock Hall's choices for the cream of the crop has mostly gone to the safe choices. While there would occasionally be some exceptional acts that found their way in, more often than not it just comes down a bunch of relics from the old guard of rock that have been long since past their prime. If you want a complete package for the harder side of rock though, it's pretty much a no-brainer to give Pantera their just due.

From a purely musical perspective, these Southern boys re-arranged the game for what metal would become in the '90s. Just like Black Sabbath and Metallica before them, they blazed the trail for something much heavier to come to the forefront, with Phil Anselmo's gutteral vocals becoming the standard for the heaviest metal out there. I mean, Dimebag Darrell's riffs alone should have been enough to merit a spot among the greats, given his presence among every list of Greatest Guitarists of All Time.

Since time has caught up with everyone though, the chances of any sort of celebration on the stage has been pretty slim to none. With Dime being tragically murdered onstage and his drumming bro Vinnie Paul passing away a few years ago, the only surviving members of Pantera have shown little interest in revisiting their past glory. Still, the door is wide open for at least a guitar-centric tribute to the flagbearers of '90s metal.
