10 Hard Rock Musicians With The Most Endearing Hobbies

3. Astrophysicist - Brian May

The common problem that follows rock musicians around is that all of them are dumb musicians who fluked their way into getting famous. Clearly these guys have never graduated high school and are only using music as a crutch so they don't have to work a job at 7/11 right? But that isn't remotely true, especially when it came to all of the members of Queen.

Aside from their natural talent as musicians, all of the members had promising futures ahead of them, with Roger Taylor almost becoming a dentist and John Deacon eventually designing his own amp given his background in engineering. The standout though had to be Brian May. During his time at university, May was particularly interested in astrophysics and one day hoped to complete his research about what's beyond our stars. You can even hear his love for this stuff in songs like 39, which is a fictional version of someone coming home after a year and realizing it's been a century (Confirmed: May wrote the synopsis for Interstellar years before it got made).

And the fact is...he did it. Despite that one throwaway line in the Bohemian Rhapsody movie, May actually did get his doctorate and actual wrote a study entitled Radial Velocities inside the Zodiacal Dust Cloud. Rock may be considered a dumb genre, but May has enough brains to put other scientists to shame.
