10 Hard Rock Songs That Were Supposed To Be Classics (But Tanked)

8. Let the Music Do the Talking - Aerosmith

Around the mid '80s, Aerosmith were starting to get back on the upswing. After Joe Perry abruptly quit in the late '70s at the expense of Steven Tyler, things were dead in the water until he returned to the fold on Done With Mirrors. With all the new magic back in full force, Aerosmith put their best foot forward with their first new album in ages...and promptly fell off the charts.

Up until their now legendary collaboration with Run-DMC on a remake of Walk This Way, this record basically did nothing, except for one little song called Let the Music Do the Talking. Originally taken as a song from Joe Perry's solo band, the new lyrics from Tyler and overall tighter groove make it feel like a dyed-in-the-wool Aerosmith track from the moment it starts. Never has a song really exemplified its title, as the Bad Boys from Boston refuse to take any prisoners on this borderline metallic groove.

For as many comparisons to the Rolling Stones as Aerosmith have gotten over the years, this is what happens when the Stones' trademark swagger is mixed in with the raw power of something like Led Zeppelin. Though the era of sellout may have been on the horizon, there's probably a parallel universe where this was the song that catapulted Aerosmith back into the rock mainstream.
