10 Hardest Metal Songs To Play On Guitar

5. Raining Blood - Slayer

It's practically common understanding that Slayer was one of the most extreme metal acts of their time. While their fellow thrashers like Metallica and Megadeth may have had a more distinctive media presence, the punk rock attitude of Kerry King and the ferocity of their approach was enough to scare those who hadn't even heard a note of their music. When you did get around to spinning the record though, Raining Blood was enough to sand your hands down to the bone.

As the song starts, the initial lick is pretty by the numbers thrash metal, as they get the groove going on the slipway to Hell. Once Dave Lombardo kicks it up a notch behind the kit, all bets are off as King and Jeff Hanneman unleash the beast, with a riff that's a cross between hardcore punk and metal. While you might find it easy once you build up the dexterity, it gets a bit more challenging in the verses, when you have to stop on a dime for the syncopated parts.

These madmen did really save the worst for last though, as the final charge kicks up the BPM to over 230 and pushes human stamina to its very limit. There may have been some other metal bands who were heavier, but this is the one track that won't do your nerves any favors in the end.
