10 Hated Bands That Are A Lot Better Than You Think
7. KISS
It almost seems counterproductive to put a band like KISS on a list of hated bands. I mean, you can't really get away with wearing that much makeup and having a spectacle onstage without someone getting annoyed off in the process. Granted, a lot of the scorn that comes from KISS nowadays is at the expense of the two people at the helm.
Ever since the numerous lineup changes starting in the '80s, both Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley have started to feel much less rock stars than they were in the beginning, painting KISS as just as much of a brand as they are a style of music. Then again, the music that they made was still pretty great for its time, albeit a little off the wall than what you were used to. Contrary to their stage getups, there's a lot more diversity in their material than most realize, from metal on Parasite to country leaning songs on Hard Luck Woman.
Even when they took their trademark face paint off, they settled into the glam rock era as well as any other band could have, with songs like Forever being the best kind of cheese for their time. Sure, KISS is a shell of what they used to be now, but that doesn't sully the good times that we have to look back on.
