10 Hated Rock Bands With One Amazing Album
2. Cracked RearView - Hootie and The Blowfish
As the '90s alternative scene started to burn itself out halfway through the decade, everyone started to tune into some of the more laid back sounds of soft rock. Around the time that the adult alternative scene started coming in, we saw the rock scene get a lot more neutered than it was back in the day, with people like the Wallflowers becoming staples of the scene. And while Hootie and the Blowfish were easily the best band to make fun of, they did have one amazing album to their name at the beginning.
On the surface though, there doesn't really seem to be anything all that special about Cracked Rearview, with most of the songs just being a solid collection of tunes from what sounds like a bar band. At the time though, the actual songs were some of the most pop friendly tracks that the rock world had to offer, having a rootsy sound that also managed to win over some of the country audience on songs like Let Her Cry.
Granted, Darius Rucker's voice does take a little bit of getting used to and it is a little tough to hear what he's actually saying 100% of the time. Then again, fans weren't really complaining about that problem whenever Eddie Vedder was the biggest thing in world, so why should it be a problem here? So if you're looking for something in the vein of Pearl Jam but with a dash of REM mixed with everything, this is the answer to your prayers.
