10 Hilariously Bad Hard Rock Songs
6. The Machine - Blue Oyster Cult
At this point, a band like Blue Oyster Cult don't really need to prove anything to anyone anymore. For as underrated as they were in the mainstream in their time, songs like Burnin For You and Don't Fear the Reaper are still nice bits of spooky rock and roll that will work on any early goth playlists. When it comes to the lyrical front though, you might want to stick with what you know rather than something like the Machine.
For the most part, BOC's latest album is a nice bit of classic rock fun, but this song is easily one of the most cornballed attempts at seriousness they have ever tried. Instead of the other doofy songs like Godzilla, this one is actually trying to have a message by warning of the dangers that come with technology. While not an entirely unfounded concept these days, a lot of these songs fall into the same trap, especially for the old guard of rockers.
Considering that most of these songs are more ham-fisted at calling out technology, talking about the dangers of smart phones comes off less like cautionary tales and more like the rantings and ravings of the older generation who doesn't really understand how technology works. BOC can still throw down with the best of them instrumentally, but when it comes to deeper topics, Radiohead did this whole paranoia thing way better over 20 years ago.
