10 Hilariously Bad Hard Rock Songs

At the dawn of the '00s, Deftones were about to experience one of the greatest surges in popularity that they had ever had. After finding their voice with Around the Fur, the rollout for White Pony was one of the most high profile smashes of 2000, bringing them acclaim that alluded most other nu metal acts. That is, as long as you don't count Back to School.

In contrast to some of the more egregious cases on this list, Back to School was never a song that was meant to be good in the first place. Once they handed in the finished album, Maverick Records actually sent the tapes back to Chino Moreno, insisting that they write something more aggro to push as a single. Initially frustrated, Chino rewrote the song Pink Maggit as a fluke to try and prove a point about how simple it was to write an angry metal song.

Instead of thinking it was funny though, Maverick was absolute rapturous, going so far as to lead off with the song on the album and putting it at the forefront of their marketing plan. Ever since the '00s though, Back to School has never revealed resurfaced in the group's setlist, instead being a bit of a fly in the ointment of what was otherwise a great album. Even if you skip over this song every time you hear it, there's at least some charm in seeing one of the most adventurous metal acts of all time try to be edgy.
