10 Hip-Hop Albums Every New Fan Should Listen To
9. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy - Kanye West
The Album: After the failure of 808's and Heartbreak (failure by his standards of course) and his interruption of Taylor Swift at the VMAs Kanye was one of the most hated musical artists in America. Even Obama called him a jack-ass. So, outcast, Kanye went to the studio and he brought all of his talented friends with him.
The result was one of the greatest hip-hop albums ever and the artistic comeback of the century. On My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy Kanye owns his behavior and raps about it with surprisingly poignant honesty (check out "Runaway"). At the same time he embraces his villainy and ignorant swagger on "Monster" and "Power."
After listening its impossible to deny, Kanye might be a jack-ass but there's just as good a chance that we're watching a musical genius at work.
Standout Track: Power (Honorable Mention: Runaway, All of the Lights, Monster)

If You Dig This, Check Out: The College Dropout. Kanye's debut album delivers the same personal honesty, bravado and incredible production that make My Dark Beautiful Twisted Fantasy special.
