10 Horrible Hard Rock Songs By Great Artists

5. Propaganda - Muse

Muse have been one of the most creative power trios of the modern age. Across their 20 year history, the band have become elder statesmen of the rock genre, as they continue to incorporate everything from hard rock to space rock to electronica in their well of musical material. However, you can end up going too far in one direction from time to time.

While the band's initial attempt at a synth rock album with Simulation Theory seemed cool in practice, the execution ended up being a bit spotty in places. Though songs like "Something Human" and even "Dig Down" had their moments, "Propaganda" has got to be one of the laziest songs that this band has ever attempted. With its buzzy tones and lack of a real hook, this song is all style and no substance, with every other attempt at catchiness being neutered by gross electronic work.

It's not like the band can't do electronica well either, with most of The 2nd Law being a proof of concept for this kind of record. On the other hand, trying to pass off a sample chopping up the word "propaganda" as a hook line is far below average for a band of Muse's caliber. There were some salvageable moments across this record, but this is a song that should have been dead on arrival from the very beginning.
