6. Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJ9rUzIMcZQ It's always a sensitive subject to subtly slam a Queen song, especially when it was voted the UK's favourite number 1 over the past 60 years in 2012. This is the song that everyone knows. The song that we truly put effort into singing and capturing the Queen essence. This is Bohemian Rhapsody. The song was released in the 1970s but had a resurgence when a re-release was dropped in the early 1990s. It cemented itself as one of those quirky, non traditionally arranged tracks that was quintessentially British and a bit left of centre, but found itself to be a mainstream success. It is really a bizzarre song that mixes a ballady intro with an intense guitar solo with a bit of Opera and rock thrown in at the end. A total amalgamation of different music genres, that makes it unforgettable...but also continually played as well. Only this is one song where the initial horror of a 6 minute song is quickly flipped into adoration, especially the much loved midsection - you know "he's just a poor boy, from a poor family". It still a firm favourite on many a playlist, but in this rare instance overplaying Bohemian Rhapsody seems to do nothing more than further cement it as classic tune.
