If you've never seen a diamond in the flesh, chances are you've got a lot in common with Lorde, the esteemed New Zealand singer-songwriter. Lorde rocketed to fame with the release of her debut album Pure Heroine back in 2013, spawning the enormously successful single Royals.

Since then, the singer has been working tirelessly on her follow-up effort, often tweeting cryptically about its progress. At one point she tweeted that she'd taken a helicopter into the wilderness and written for three days. Another time she revealed she'd finally uttered the record's title aloud to her mother.

Regardless of her methods, the album is finally very nearly ready for the world to hear it. At the close of 2016 Lorde revealed the record was written and in production. Will it manage to successfully build upon the smooth energy of Pure Heroine? Given the fact she resisted the pressure to rush out a follow-up to captialize on that record's success, I'd say most definitely.
