10 Incredible 2000s Bands That Are Still Killing It
6. Against Me!
When these anarcho punks first broke out in the late 2000s, they inspired a new wave of bands to write angry songs with unavoidable choruses but nobody knew they’d then go on to further rile up a queer punk revolution.
Against Me!’s output in the 2000s saw the band become underground heroes on their debut album, Reinventing Axl Rose and form themselves as folk punk anarchists writing garage level music before hitting it big on New Wave and crashing within their own scene as ‘sellouts’ in 2007. New Wave marked a shift in the band, remaining true to their punk core they began writing punk songs worthy of big stages. Songs like Thrash Unreal, Up the Cuts and Stop! go toe to toe with most punk bands of the era.
A lot has changed for the band since then, lead singer Laura Jane Grace came out as trans, her life seemed to fall apart, band members came and went and Against Me! released a string of records that were tight, expressive and heart breaking. The band’s next album seems imminent, and Against Me! definitely still have anger left in the tank and a whole lotta words that need to be heard.
