2. ONE OK ROCK

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2dFMNPA9jQ ONE OK ROCK is a Japanese rock band from Tokyo and they've been active since 2005. Their name is a play on "one-o-clock," the time they used to meet for practice during high-school. The currently band consists of of lead vocalist Moriuchi Takahiro, nicknamed Taka, guitarist Yamashita Toru, percussionist Kanki Tomoya and bassist Kohama Ryota. They cite their major influences as Good Charlotte, Ellegarden (another Japanese punk rock band) and Nirvana. Recently, they've been moving into the international music scene. You'll notice that much of the attached song is in English. However, some international, not Japanese, fans have criticised them for becoming "Americanised." In the opinion of this writer, this is a really unfair criticism. Rock knows no borders and there are teenage garage rock bands across the globe; from Seattle to Cape Town, Bangkok to Beijing. No band has any obligation to be "Japanese" or "British" or "American," for that matter. The music stands or falls on its own merit.
