10 Legendary Albums That Fans Originally Hated
5. RAM - Paul McCartney and Wings
In the aftermath of the Beatles' breakup, Paul McCartney seemed to be the only Fab that didn't manage to land on his feet. Since the business dealings painted him as the dictator of the Fab Four, his solo debut sounding like a demo was definitely a shock coming from the supposed perfectionist of the group. Once he started to find his footing a little more, he and Linda went to New York and made RAM as their ode to country living.
Upon first release, fans were less angry and more confused about this album, with some songs clicking and others sounding like weird experiments made for the hell of it. The critical consensus was that Macca couldn't function without the other Beatles, and seeing his former partner John Lennon diss him on How Do You Sleep certainly didn't help matters. In the years since it came out though, RAM has come up the ranks as one of the most celebrated Beatles solo albums.
What had previously been thought of as weird or garbage back in the '70s has actually proved to be wildly ahead of its time, like the trippy sounding Western song Monkberry Moon Delight and the cute interludes with ukuleles for the pseudo title track Ram On. This was unthinkable coming from one of the biggest artists in the world, but if RAM were released a little later down the line, this would have been the start of indie rock.
