10 Legendary Rock Bands That Made Metal Albums
1. Probot - Dave Grohl
There's a chance that Dave Grohl could probably play any type of genre that you throw his way. If you look at the projects he has been involved with, Dave can go from the stadium rock of the Foo Fighters to being the session drummer for Nine Inch Nails to somehow making the songs of the Bee Gees rock on the Foos' album Hail Satin. Dave's always had a soft spot for heavy metal though, and the Probot album has a lineup that is the stuff of any metalhead's dream.
For each of these songs, Dave took the time to write with some of the biggest metal musicians that he loved growing up, whether that be writing a song with Lemmy from Motorhead or Cronos from Venom contributing to a track. While this wasn't necessarily meant to be a real record, the songs on here still give you more than just your traditional metal album from front to back. Going through each of the songs, each one of these feels like Dave toying with another subgenre of metal, like having Kim Thayil's of Soundgarden on guitar for a track or bringing in Max Cavalara to kick you in the teeth on the song Red War.
The fact that this wasn't meant to be a mainline album though just tells you the kind of musician that Dave Grohl is. This wasn't him trying to just find another demographic or proving his chops to people. He just put this together because he thought it would be a ton of fun, and it's hard not to have a good time when listening to it as well.
