1. Platypus (I Hate You)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qM34hG421ks Nimrod was the first album where Green Day started to slow down and reflect a bit more on tracks. It was the album that "Good Riddance" comes from after all. Along with that huge ballad, Nimrod featured other slower songs like "Worry Rock" and "Redundant." Indeed, perhaps tired with how sappy the songs were becoming, the band decided to mix it up with a blistering track they placed just after, "Worry Rock" on the track list. Harkening back to older Green Day, "Platypus" is a hate filled, fast paced song making sure that we didn't for a second think they'd lost their attitude. The song is rumoured to be directed at a journalist who changed his positive opinions on green Day once they started to gain some fame, and features lyrics that were deemed to obscene to even put in the lyric book. Billie Joe has said that the reason for calling it Platypus was simply that he always wanted to name a song that, and "I Hate You" would have been boring on its own. Bonus Track: The Ballad of Wilhem Fink
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6bCWMdarZI Not really known for their 30-second punk songs, Green Day decided to take a shot at it for the collection "Short Music For Short People," which featured 101 bands playing songs of roughly 30 seconds in length. For this, Green Day put together "The Ballad of Wilhelm Fink," which was in actual fact just Billie Joe on an acoustic guitar. The song tells the tale of the pessimistic character Wilhelm Fink, who is preparing for a date but believes that according to his luck it will probably go wrong. "Instead of sex we'll go to jail, another lesson learned and failed."
