10 Live Shows That Changed Music History

7. Lollapalooza's First Gig

When putting together some of the biggest festivals in the world, you normally try to shoot for the most big ticket artists you can find. Though you have to deal with a few no names on the bottom of the bill, there's always that one artist that wins you over and makes you want to buy tickets for the rest of the gig. But what if you have a bunch of no names making a festival on their own terms?

Formed by Jane's Addiction's Perry Farrell in the early '90s, Lollapalooza was meant to be a new festival for people on the fringes of the music industry, which would go on to take the world by storm in the next few years. Looking back on the early festivals nowadays, the whole thing runs like a who's who of '90s talent, with Pearl Jam and the Red Hot Chili Peppers making appearances on the bills in the first few years.

There was even an idea for the festival to do a tour of their own, with each respective band dropping in and out of the ranks to play around the country. Though the modern incarnation of Lollapalooza stays designated to one particular spot, the artists on the top spots are still as eclectic and (now) more in demand than ever before.
