10 Massively Underrated Albums From The 2000s
3. Motion City Soundtrack - Commit This To Memory (2005)
You may only know Motion City Soundtrack for their hit song Everything Is Alright but the band are one of the best pop punk acts of the 00s. They come from an era where pop-punk was more Jawbox and Sunny Day Real Estate inspired rather than its current sound, and Commit This To Memory is a collection of tight, catchy, big punk tunes.
Commit This to Memory isn’t a perfect album, the tracklisting could probably benefit from moving opener Attractive Today further down. It also saw the band switch from their quirkier, punkier sound to something much more mainstream; however this just brought an even bigger sense of songwriting to their music.
Commit This To Memory is a rare occasion where a pop-punk band manages to mature their sound while retaining the youthful freedom of the genre. It cemented the band as worthy of living alongside their contemporaries such as Jimmy Eat World, Fall Out Boy and Paramore, even if they don’t have the big success of those artists.
If you want something rougher and quirkier, check out their debut album I Am The Movie, it’s another underrated 00s record.
