6. He's Written Better Songs Than You. And Everyone Else.

As has been discussed, ‘Be Here Now’ is regarded as one of the greatest albums ever recorded yet is dismissed as the least popular from Noel’s back catalogue so it stands to reason that all his other records are head and shoulders above everyone else’s. (Fun fact: Noel uses Head & Shoulders shampoo to keep his immaculate hair so well groomed.)

So what if the guitar lines, melody, lyrical structure and chord progression on every album are pretty much identical on every track and they, in turn, were blatantly pilfered from his musical heroes? Every artist on the face of the planet, living or dead, has done this in one way or another. The difference being is that Gallagher is flagrantly instructed by his majestic eyebrows to admit to thieving from his idols. Which makes him a true original in himself. Where another artist may ‘sample’ an original, or ‘acknowledge’ a swiped lyric or borrowed melody, Noel openly ‘thieves’, leaving him wide open to criticism. From which he absolutely cares. Obviously.

You can call him arrogant but if you’ve written ‘Digsy’s Dinner’, ‘Sunday Morning Call’ and ‘I Hope, I Think, I Know’ then you’ve got every right to be a bit smug about yourself.
