3. It’s A Beautiful Life - Freebass
Freebass broke up before they even released their only album It's a Beautiful Life in 2010. The supergroup consisted of Manchester-based bassists including Peter Hook of New Order, Andy Rourke of The Smiths, and Gary Mounfield of The Stone Roses.
While more famous for their previous releases, Freebass was a unique concept which never came close to matching the quality of their members’ wider discography. While their debut EP is available to stream, their full album is not.
It's a Beautiful Life took over five years to finish, and was released on Peter Hook’s Haçienda label. Shortly before releasing, Hook formed Peter Hook & The Light, with the intention of playing old Joy Division and New Order songs following Hook leaving New Order.
Mounfield saw this as the death of Freebass, tweeting, “he ain't got time for me now he's getting fortunes for dragging his mate's cadaver round the world getting himself paid.” Hook and Mani have since reconciled, but It's a Beautiful Life remains away from streaming services.
