10 Most Controversial Songs In Rock History

3. Bu$hleaguer - Pearl Jam

It's shocking to think of how little protest songs actually managed to come out of the mid '00s era of rock and roll. Though we did get a handful of great jabs at the Bush administration from System of a Down and American Idiot by Green Day, you'd be hardpressed to find any more on the charts, instead getting the most recent audio turd that Nickelback came up with. Granted, if you wanted to take a few political jabs, you sometimes need to look to the old guard to see how to do it.

During their art rock phase in the early '00s, Pearl Jam included a few mellow tracks about the war on Riot Act, only to come out with their teeth on Bu$hleaguer. From the minute that this tune starts, there's no denying that Eddie Vedder has some disdain for his commander in chief, vying to show the more artificial side of him while sounding like some dejected game show host.

It seemed that Vedder wanted to be antagonistic in his presentation too, which worked when they performed the song for the first time in Texas and ended up getting booed throughout the performance. As Jeff Ament said though, the joys of being in a band is about not being afraid of getting pushback from your audience every now and again.
