Child stars have always gotten far more hate than they probably deserve. Though there have been some pretty horrid child stars, you can't really blame them for trying to make a career for themselves in music if they genuinely have the passion to do it. On the other hand, for every Justin Timberlake, you always have to deal with people like Rebecca Black.
Since its release in 2011, "Friday" has been one of the most infantile attempts at pop music to ever capture the mainstream's attention. From day one, the song never really had a shot, with everyone quick to point out that Ms. Black had a horrible voice. There is a lot to critique about the nasal delivery she employs, but the instrumentation itself doesn't really give her much of a leg to stand on, with most of it being nothing more than generic synthesizers and some of the most trite lyrics to ever be put on an mp3 file.
We should always give artists the benefit of the doubt when releasing music, but right out of the gate, this song was one of the biggest viral duds the music industry has ever put out. Dispensable pop songs get released all the time, but even by generic standards, you can do miles better than this.
