10 Most Dramatic Band Splits In Music History
5. Aerosmith
Aerosmith had endured a lot by the time they reached the end of the 70's. After initially being panned as a Rolling Stones knock-off, the band quickly found their identity with boogie rock masterpieces like Toys in the Attic and Rocks. However, with success came drug addiction, which would eventually mark the downfall of one of the greatest hard rock acts of the 70's.
When the band locked themselves away in a studio to record Draw the Line, each member was strung out on cocaine, heroin, and everything in between. This led to the sessions going from seemless jamming to painstaking takes as the band struggled to get the songs to take shape. On the ensuing tour, the drug-fueled shows were coupled with blowups between Steven Tyler and Joe Perry.
With Tyler snorting cocaine and Perry preoccupied with his girlfriend, the band finished a show in Cleveland and started wailing on each other backstage. This led to the band's wives getting involved, with Joe Perry's girlfriend Elyssa throwing a glass of milk at Tom Hamilton's wife Terry's head. After yet another screaming match with Tyler, Perry decided he had had enough and quit to start his own project. Suddenly, Aerosmith lost its second frontman over the age-old tale of spilled milk.
