If Jim Morrison's goal in his short life was to explore the inner and outer worlds through the use of psychedelic drugs, punk rock pioneer Sid Vicious sat at the other end of the spectrum - his band The Sex Pistols was all about tearing things down, whether it was the establishment they were playing in or the Establishment which governed the country. Vicious was a rebel from the outset, but it was when he partnered up with girlfriend and manager Nancy Spungen that he really started to hit the rails - the two soon became addicted to heroin and entered into a codependent relationship centred around this deadly substance. Believe it or not, it was Sid's mother who got him hooked on drugs, supplying her son a cocktail of substances from a young age. Sid Vicious's life and career were cut short earlier than most rock stars - after being arrested for the murder of Nancy Spungen and making bail he celebrated at a party where he took heroin for the last time. Ironically, he'd only just managed to clean up his act. Rumours of a death pact with Nancy persist to this day.
