10 Most Hated Albums In Rock Music History
1. Lulu - Metallica and Lou Reed
If there's anything that puts dollar signs in the eyes of record labels, it's the idea of supergroup. Since these two acts are already great in their own right, imagine what could happen if you manage to bring them together to collaborate on something. And the bands themselves may be all for working together...you just have to make sure that the genres actually compliment each other at the end of the day.
On paper though, Metallica and Lou Reed does seem like it could work, with Reed being the progenitor of stuff like punk rock and Metallica being one of the titans of the metal genre. The only issue is that both artists don't really do much to work together on Lulu, with most of it just being some filler Metallica riffs interspersed with Lou's spoken word poetry over the top of it.
In that sense, it's not really like this is a true collaboration between the two. This just reads like two artists are just sitting awkwardly next to each other and just hoping that some creative sparks will fly. To this day though, Lars Ulrich has mentioned that he is proud of their collaboration and wouldn't change a thing about where they went. You can tell that Metallica has guts, but when they go down weird roads like this, you start to understand why the fanbase can get frustrated with them from time to time.
