10 Most Hated Musicians Of All Time
7. Coldplay
Reason: Too Boring
Most of the early '00s tends to be a bit of a wasteland as far as rock music was concerned. Up until the White Stripes snapped us out of the funk we'd been in, most of the turn of the century had to do more with posturing models on TRL pretending to be tough. Although change was in the air, we were not going to be getting any real return to rock's roots with Coldplay.
On the surface though, there was still a lot to admire about these British heavyweights in the early days. Being clear descendents of the Britpop movement, their first efforts on A Rush of Blood to the Head were respectable to notch them some huge hits on the charts. Ever since Viva La Vida though, the group has been on a very slippery slope into generic territory.
From hopping on random trends to collaborating with acts like the Chainsmokers, a lot of Coldplay's later material lacks the same heart and drive that they had in the early days, instead replaced with a traditional pop rock polish. Though there still are some definite highlights from their catalog in recent years, it always seems like you have to sift through the sonic equivalent of diabetes before getting to a decent song. It's completely understandable that they don't want to mess with the formula, but those pop royalty checks have come with a cost.
