British rock stars are a special breed, and we've had some great ones over the years.

This list undoubtably could be compiled merely of frontmen pulled out of the 1960s and '70s, so inundated were those decades with pioneers of the rock movement, and you could most likely guess what that list would look like. Long haired, crotch thrusting, adonis' with as much hair on their chest as their head.

No, instead this list has had a little more thought put into it.

Of course, it would be wrong not to include at least a smattering of those classic rock gods, but the aforementioned description is far to limiting and it would mean excluding a number of highly influential frontmen, who don't necessarily spring to mind at first.

The best British frontmen are the ones who became icons of a particular time period or movement that changed the face of music, leading their respective bands to glory and carving out new ground for rock to exist in.

10. Liam Gallagher - Oasis

Liam Gallagher is as well known for his off-stage persona as he is for being the lead singer of one of the biggest British rock bands in the world.

It's part of the appeal for some, and for others it's what turns them off, but rock stars wouldn't be fun without at least a little bit of controversy. Whichever side of the fence you fall on, however, it all makes for great entertainment.

Part of the Oasis appeal was the rough around the edges charm of the two Gallagher brothers, but whereas Noel had a degree of wit injected into his interactions with the press, Liam was more known for saying or acting on the first thing that would come into his head.

But, for whatever reason the swaggering Mancunian was able to pull it off. He inspired generations of dedicated Oasis fans to sport a mod cut, don a classic sheepskin or parka in any weather, and adopt a strut that would only be acceptable if one had just ridden the length and breadth of Britain on the back of a giraffe.

His distinctive vocal delivery, the drawn out vowels and his unique ability to play the tambourine so tenaciously (even when there was no tambourine in the song) all made for one hell of a frontman.
