10 Most Innovative Rock Acts Of The 2010s

9. Big Thief

To call Big Thief a folk rock band would be a disservice to Adrianne Lenker's range.

By all means, when she's accompanied by an acoustic guitar this women can enchant you with softly sung ballads. But, her true power lies in the impassioned way she can scream into a microphone with all the resonance of a metal musician. And that's not to mention her guitar playing, she can rock a solo that has jus as much impact as many of the current big hitters in rock.

Many of the misconceptions about this band are due to how they sound on their albums. When playing live these guys approach their tracks very differently to their studio sound, and in away its a shame that their raw power doesn't get captured in the recording process.

There are two sides to this band: they can play the part of gentle indie-folk rockers, but they can also make you rock out when they chose to dial things up to eleven.

These guys need to be locked in a studio and not let out until they record a hard rock album. They certainly have the energy and skill to pull it off, they just haven't had a producer willing to guide them in that direction. Someone call Rick Rubin...
