10 Most Overhated Bands In Rock

9. Red Hot Chili Peppers

There are a lot of bands who get called out for being too homogeneous with their sound. While you may have a handful of great tunes, it's doesn't make that much of a difference if every song ends up sounding the same. Even though people single out the Red Hot Chili Peppers as prime candidates for this spot, their exquisite blend of influences have made them true originals.

Granted, there are many times in the band's 90's output where they sounded pretty much the same, down to the singsongy flow of Anthony Kiedis and the raw bass whirlwind of Flea. On the other hand, the band actually tried their hand at several different genres if you know where to look for them. For as many songs like "Give It Away," songs like "I Could Have Lied" bring a raw introspective side to the band's music.

As they emerged at the end of the 90's with John Frusciante back in the band, they even started to incorporate more melodic sensibilities into their sound, making them feel like the raw-nerved funky counterpart to rock's greatest songwriters. The Peppers certainly have a specific sound in mind when writing a tune, but while some Peppers songs sound the same, no one can create the real magic they possess.
