10 Most Overrated Metal Bands Of All Time
4. Staind
Say what you want to about the nu metal surge of the late '90s, but you can't knock them points for conviction. As much as some of the lyrics from the likes of Korn may have sounded twisted, you had no doubt that they were actually coming from a legitimate place. Once the genre had some money though, they decided to throw it at some bands who didn't even sound like they cared.
Which is all the more shocking when you realize that there is actually some genuine talent behind Staind. Aside from his vocal mannerisms, Aaron Lewis definitely has some chops behind the fretboard, and Mike Mushok has proven himself as not too shabby behind him either. What the people really wanted to here though is some of the most lackluster cuts in their catalog, going from the melodrama of It's Been Awhile to actually settling for Lewis whining on songs like So Far Away.
Granted, the benefit of hindsight hasn't done these guys any favors either, especially when you look at how much Aaron Lewis has tarnished his reputation by straight up walking out of concerts in the past few years. This isn't the kind of music that brings back those angsty memories. These are the songs where you actually start to feel bad for the people who claimed to relate to them.
