10 Most Successful Rock Music Star Siblings

3. The Davies (Ray And Dave)

When discussing The Beatles and their rivals from the 1960s, thoughts immediately turn to The Rolling Stones. In reality, a closer comparison might be The Kinks.

Formed in London in 1963, The Kinks also presented shiny, happy-sounding rock 'n' roll, but weren't adverse to making some social commentary while they were at it. Their song, You Really Got Me, is seen by contemporary critics as a starting point for heavy metal. It came out four years before The Beatles wrote Helter Skelter.

You Really Got Me was written by Ray Davies, with the famous guitar riff and solo being played by his younger brother Dave. Dave Davies. That's his real name.

Dave was a guitar pioneer, playing around with heavier sounds years before they would become commonplace. As for Ray, his penmanship birthed some of the most poetic rock lyrics of the age, including those of Waterloo Sunset.

Had they not been banned from touring the US, The Kinks might have been just as big as any of their peers. Still, they remain very popular in spite of that misfortune, thanks in large part to two brothers.
