10 Most Trippy Albums Of All Time

5. Exile On Main Street - The Rolling Stones

To say that the sessions for the Rolling Stones's Exile on Main Street were strenuous may be a bit of an understatement. After going through radical fees to work in their native England, the band relocated to the Nelcotte villa in France to begin work on this double album.

Along with getting away from tax obligations, the other signature expenditure from this record came from Keith Richards, who was using heroin on a daily basis throughout most of the writing process. On any given day, it was not uncommon for various hangers on and drug dealers to saunter into the mansion to supply Keef with his daily self-medication.

On the other hand, the silver lining to the drug dependency was the songs, which were some of the best the band had ever composed. From ballads like "Sweet Virginia" to rockers like "Rip This Joint," it seemed like another classic would be created every single day. By the time recording finally wrapped up, the band had spent thousands of pounds on drugs while also creating more great tunes than most bands could hope for across their entire career. This is one of the most excessive albums of greatness from the band who arguably invented rock and roll excess.
