10 Most Underrated Band Members
1. Alex Lifeson - Rush
When it comes to being in a three-piece band, there's never really one member that is overshadowed. Trios tend to act like a three-legged stool, where the entire project would collapse if one musician was removed. However, if there is such a thing as an unsung member of a power trio, Alex Lifeson certainly fits the bill.
Out of all the members of Rush, Geddy Lee is the most recognizable with the signature high voice and god-like touch to the bass guitar. On the other side of things, most of the attention is paid to Neil Peart, who is often lauded as the greatest drummer in the world. What people never seem to grasp is Alex Lifeson's more humble innovations, such as using different effects to create some of the most beautiful sonic landscapes the guitar had ever produced. Aside from the technical milestones, Lifeson has shown his ability to shred across multiple genres and instruments, from ripping up Jimmy Page-esque solos to Eastern sounding passages to even classical guitar flourishes on the band's more subdued cuts.
In a band with some of the best rock musicians of all time, Alex Lifeson is no slouch and may very well be the most adventurous solo crafter of all time. Look no further than Eddie Van Halen, who famously uttered "I don't know what it's like to be a guitar god...ask Alex Lifeson."
