10 Most Underrated Blink 182 Songs
3. Reckless Abandon - Take Off Your Pants
The key behind Blink's music in the early days was about how it felt like it was speaking to the youth directly. Compared to the other acts like Simple Plan that felt like they were put together through a marketing campaign, these were the kind of random suburban dudes that just happened to get famous off of a few great songs. Once they got famous though, they didn't forget about where they came from.
Midway through Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, Reckless Abandon is probably one of the purest examples of Tom singing about living the life of a punk in the suburbs. Across most of the record, we knew these guys had something to say on songs like Anthem Part Two and Give Me One Good Reason, but this song feels more like a document of the days where you could live by the seat of your pants.
It's also funny in places too, especially when you hear the second verse talking about feeding his dog pot brownies and defecating in the tub. Above all else, this isn't a song about trying to find the answers to life or anything. It's about just looking back on the wild times you've had and how you've managed to survive this long. It's great to reminisce, but just remember that you can never go back.
