10 Most Underrated Blink 182 Songs
2. Ghost On The Dance Floor - Neighborhoods
Just like the new version of Blink nowadays, there are a handful of Blink enthusiasts that think the band should have truly called it a day after their self-titled record. Since none of the band could get back on the same page when making Neighborhoods, it just felt like the passion that made those classic records great just wasn't there anymore. If the magic had truly gone away though, we wouldn't be sitting here with a classic like Ghost On the Dance Floor on our hands.
Compared to the more spaced-out sounds of the rest of the record, this really feels like the band being reborn, with the opening drumbeat from Travis seeping in before the beat eventually drops with Tom's guitar lick. When you look at the lyrics though, the entire song reads much more like a punch in the gut.
Since this was Travis' return to drumming after his horrific plane crash, this song stands as a tribute to DJ AM, who had passed away a few months previously. With that context, the whole song has the potential to rip your heart out, as Tom talks about feeling someone's ghost when listening to a song, even though he knows that they're no longer there to enjoy it. Even when performing this song live, the band would often flash pics of DJ AM on the stage monitors. Whereas most Blink songs tend to tackle more romantic material, this is just a true testament to what music can really do to you.
