10 Most Underrated Green Day Songs

5. Working Class Hero

It seems a bit strange putting a cover song in the conversation of one of Green Day's best moments. After all, what are they going to add when most of the songwriting has already been done for them? Even though Billie Joe may not have put the pen to paper for this one, these guys certainly swung for the fences when doing justice to one of rock's greatest songwriters.

Completed for a charity album, this take on the classic John Lennon song is one of the single most epic things that these guys have ever done, as they pummel away at those chords like it's one of the most important thing in the world. While the core of the tune starts off like the original with folksy guitar chords, they do a terrific job at bringing it back around and turning this little blunt song into an emotional wrecking ball.

I wouldn't be surprised if Disturbed got the idea for their Sound of Silence cover directly from this song, considering that it does the same exquisite job of starting small and then creating a vast sonic landscape. As if the tune wasn't good enough, Armstrong also finds time to weave in a brand new guitar solo, which gives the track so much more life. You have to have a certain confidence of you're going to cover a Beatles' tune, and yet these pop punk brats from the Bay ended up making it look easy.
